বিষয় : About BARI Gom 26 and BARI Gom 27
বিস্তারিত :Hi, I am MSc student of Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University. I need information about the latest released wheat varieties, specially BARI GOM 26 & 27 for my research purpose. Please help me.

উত্তর/মতামত

Wheat Research Centre so far released 28 wheat varieties of which BARI Gom 23 (Bijoy) and BARI Gom 24 (Prodip) released in 2005, BARI Gom 25 & BARI Gom 26 released in 2010 and BARI Gom 27 and BARI Gom 28 released in 2012 are recommended for commercial cultivation. All this varieties are high yielding and heat tolerant, resistant to leaf rust and tolerant to bipolaris leaf blight diseases. Of these varieties, BARI Gom 25 is tolerant to moderate level of salinity. BARI Gom 26 and BARI Gom 27 are moderately resistant to Ug99 race of stem rust disease. Moreover, BARI Gom 28 is very early in maturity and highly tolerant to terminal heat stress. Salient features of BARI Gom 26 and BARI Gom 27 are given below:

BARI Gom 26

The variety is semi-dwarf in height with high yield potential released in 2010. The grain yield ranges from 4000-5000 kg/ha under optimum management. It requires 60-65 days to heading and 104-110 days to mature. Spike is medium with 45-50 grains per spike. Grains are amber in colour, bright and larger in size (1000-grain weight 48-52g). The variety is tolerant to terminal heat stress giving 10-12% higher yield than Shatabdi under late seeding. The variety is tolerant to bipolaris leaf blight and resistant to leaf rust diseases with moderate level of resistance to stem rust race, Ug 99. The variety is highly tolerant to terminal heat stress and suitable for growing both in optimum and late seeding condition. It can also be grown successfully throughout the country except in areas with salinity level less than 6 dS/m.

BARI Gom 27

This is a high yielding, short stature variety released in 2012. It is 2-3 days earlier in heading than Shatadi. It takes about 60-65 days for heading and 105-110 days to get maturity. Grains are white amber in colour and medium in size (35-40g). Spikes are medium in size with 45-50 grains per spike. Grain yield under optimum management is high, 3500-5400 kg/ha. The variety is resistant to stem rust race Ug 99 and leaf rust and moderately resistant to Bipolaris leaf blight. Rapid expansion of this variety will combat the future threat of Ug99 race of stem rust in Bangladesh.
